Surrounding area
In the area surrounding Henri Willig’s farms there is always much to see and experience. It is simple to plan a day trip by combining a visit to one of our cheese farms with other activities, such as:
Volendam and surroundings The world-famous town of Volendam is just a stone’s throw from the Jacobs Hoeve and the Alida Hoeve – De Vriendschap. Visit the picturesque and renowned Volendam dike, overlooking the harbour and the distinctive working class district called The Labyrinth (Het Doolhof). From Volendam, you can take a boat trip to Marken or visit the small city of Edam, just minutes away.
Zaanse Schans and surroundings The Zaanse Schans itself is the tourist attraction to see, with its walking tours, boat tours and demonstrations. Just outside of the Zaanse Schans is the wider Zaan area, a unique mixture of peat fields, the typical wooden houses of the Zaan area, windmills, monumental industrial buildings, the Zaan river, the country village atmosphere and a city centre. There are many opportunities to visit a museum or enjoy the recreational activities in diverse nature areas.
Amstelveen and surroundings Ratterman Wooden Shoes & Cheese lies at the edge of Amsterdam, providing an excellent opportunity to combine a visit to Ratterman with a day in Amsterdam. Amstelveen as well, has enough to offer: shopping in the stylish covered mall 't Stadshart, or absorb the culture of the Cobra Museum or Exposition Centre Aemstelle, in which the history of Amstelveen is exhibited.
