The production process up close

For groups on a educational trip or just interested in a Technical Visit, we offer the option of taking an close-up look at our production process. Because a Technical Visit may not interfere with production, we ask that you book your visit well in advance.

Twenty-five years ago, Henri Willig started making his own cheese. The process was done manually and on a small-scale at that time. Thanks to many inventive ideas and creative solutions, the cheese in Katwoude is now manufactured using self-designed machines. Our efforts in development and the meticulous production process were crowned with the prestigious gold medal for our aged goat cheese at the World Championship Cheese Contest in Wisconsin, USA in April, 2006. All of our cheese, packaged in a variety of cheery colours of cellophane, are now exported to countries over the whole world.

A combination visit with an (organic) cattle farm is also a possibility. We work closely with a cattle breeder colleague to provide excursions tailored to your needs. A programme can be put together ranging from one hour to a whole day. Some themes include:

  • Organic agriculture
  • Agrarian nature conservation
  • Private nature conservation
  • Cultural-historical walk
  • Grass and clover cultivation
  • Composting dike clippings from the district water conservancy
  • Robotic milking with grazing
  • Cross-breeding with the Blaarkop breed
